not barcode

My wife was returning a parcel via the company Evri. Not our choice, they were specified by the company that the item came from, and they supplied a link to the parcel firm to do all the necessary information filling to get it collected by their system.

She left it out in the porch yesterday. She had got the returns label from them to download, which she printed out and attached nice and tidily to the parcel, and left it on a shelf with the label facing upwards, nice and obvious. What could go wrong?

Arrived home yesterday to find the parcel was still in the porch where she left it, except now with an Evri 'Sorry we missed you' card placed on top of it.

On this card is handwritten "NOT BARCODE''.

What does this grammar-free note communicate?
There it is, on the parcel, on an A4 sized and clearly printed label. A huge barcode. As supplied by the parcel firm themselves.

We thought about it for a moment, and we decided that this, most definitely, "IS BARCODE"

Ordered a returns pick up by Royal Mail instead.
We'll see how that goes.
